Mrs. J and Her Home Makeover

Mrs. J was often sleeping in a chair in her front yard because she feared her roof would fall in. Friends provided some financial support so a local church could shore up the structure, put on a new roof, redo the plumbing, upgrade wiring, and clean up her living quarters. Mrs. J is now able to safely sleep indoors, enjoy running water, and use household appliances.

Pastor Steve Hammack of Anchor Church in Grayson and a loyal crew of home repair volunteers have been working to make a difference in seniors’ lives. Through their faith in action, they transformed a home, a life, and a neighborhood and gave an elderly woman a new perspective on life by making her home livable again, thereby allowing her to age in place.
